Friday and Finished!

It's finally Friday! I've been looking forward to Friday all week. You see it's the day my hubby comes home, the day I can stay up late knowing that I could possibly sleep in on Saturday. (Staying up late translates into getting things done and that is wonderful!)

It's been a busy and tiring week. Feeling kinda drained but nothing helps revive me like finishing a little project or 2. Drum roll please.. here is what I finished this week!

I finished a that cute little shrug for Anaiah. I had taken the yarn with me to the US thinking I'd be making a different cardigan with it but after finishing nearly half of the other cardigan I realized that I was going to run out of yarn. So, I frogged the other one and cast on Artichaut. A delightfully cute little pattern that complimented the dress I had made for Anaiah really well. I love how it turned out!

About a year ago we had a visiting Raveller named Carol here in Delhi. She was such a joy to talk to! She also generously brought little covered measuring tapes for all of us to enjoy. I was to taken with mine that I decided that would be a lovely little project someday. Just before coming back to India I stumbled upon a good deal for these little tape measures and picked up some.  It's been really fun and fast to cover these and I hope that the lovely ladies who receive them will be as happy as I was with the ones I received from Carol. I'm not totally sure yet who the perfect recipients are for mine but I have some ideas..

What did you finish this week?

Finished this week!

I've been so busy these last few days finishing knitting projects and sewing projects and starting a few new ones.  I think I've nearly finished all the Christmas gifts that I will be sending back to MN this year.  I don't think I have ever been so ambitious when it comes to making gifts before. Everyone is getting a hat or a scarf or two. I hope they all like/appreciate them!  Today I found the perfect gift box for Lief, the pale green skinny scarf I made for my mother.  She is so lief! I really know she is going to love it!

I've also finished the fall table runner in time for Thanksgiving on Thursday!

And last night I stayed up late sewing up this little bag. It's for my secret swap partner. I really hope she likes it. The pattern is called the Buttercup bag - by Made by Rae. It's an adorable little bag and I think I'll have to sew up a few more including one for myself really soon. The project in the bag is a new one I've started this week.

Finished things this week. It was a great week!

Muddy Waters

I love love love finishing projects! Don't you? It's a wonderful feeling when you bind off that last stitch. This scarf/shawlette was my 'on the go' project this month. Great for picking up whenever, crocheting a few stitches, getting interrupted by a toddler, and picking back up again without losing track of what you were doing! It's a lovely simple pattern called "Sweet Eleanor Scarf" by Quince Tart.  I like how it turned out and have called it muddy waters because the Yaguchi yarn I used has lovely blue and brown plies and they reminded me of a pond.. in a good way.

Anaiah loved twirling about and having me catch her up in this scarf. I did however have to hold her arm to get her to stop spinning long enough to snap a picture. She's such a silly sweet little girl and she is growing up way to fast.

Hope everyone who celebrated Diwali this week had a great time and enjoyed all the lights!

Dino Bumps

I love it when something gets finished.  This was an impromptu project. I picked up the yarn on a whim and only bought one hank (about 55 grams).  Then all of a sudden, while I started to lose interest in the idea of going through my sewing stuff to tidy up a bit, I decided to make a hat with it. I've always thought the Anupriya hat was really cute so without really reading much I chained it up in the child size. Happily going along I realized that it was looking really big. So big that I would probably be able to wear it myself and so big that I might easily run out of the yarn before being able to finish it. So I frogged it and modified it and started again. You see in my enthusiasm I had not really read about the gauge or what kind of yarn they were actually using. The yarn I used was much heavier as was the hook. So I took out a few segments to make it smaller. I really just guessed but it worked out ok.  I also changed the way the bobbles swirl a little and made the ear flap smaller, added a tiny visor extension too. I have about a yard left. sigh of relieve!

I think it turned out really cute. I've called it Dino Bumps because my daughter is into a song about dinosaurs this week and it kinda in a weird way reminded me of them. Maybe it's the colors. ;)

In case you feel like listening to the silly song too. It's actually kinda educational!

Finished! :)

I finished the cropped cardigan I was working on for Anaiah. It's a bit big on her. I also think it would have looked better if I had gone up a hook size on the rib edging because it probably would lay a little flatter.
Overall I think it turned out cute! I hope she gets lots of use out of it!

Please don't mind the bedhead hair! She was just getting up from her nap.
Thanks to a new pirate cartoon on TV, she sat still long enough for me to snap a quick picture.

She loves her "faff".

W.I.P. Wednesday!

I am doing something very unlike me.. I am juggling a few crochet/knitting projects at the same time. Usually I like to focus all my energy on one things till it's finished and then start a new thing. However this month I'm working on lots of things.

A scarf for my brother John. I hope he likes it. I've never crocheted for him before and he's a young guy. I love how this pattern reminds me a little of hounds tooth. I think he will like the colors. The pattern is called the Subway Scarf by Vickie Howell

Also on the hook, a plum colored cropped cardigan for Anaiah. I just started this today and expect to finish it quickly. It's a simple and cute pattern that I was given and couldn't wait to get started on!  No pictures yet.. sorry. It's the same yarn I made the Small Talk shawl out of.

On some needles, another scarf... sadly I as of right now do not have enough yarn to finish it. Hopefully I can get some more. I don't have a huge stash of yarn but somehow I did think I had more than I actually do have of this yarn but the pattern is so lovely I hate to rip it all out. I'm also a VERY slow knitter so that's hours of work for nothing if I frog it.
The pattern is Three Sisters scarves #2 by Monika Steinbauer

My Wednesday work in progress.

I started a crochet project this week. Mainly because the light in the room where I sew is out and that means it's kinda dim in there even during the day. I hate working in dim lighting conditions so I've picked up some yarn and a hook and am making a shawl. Hopefully I'll get the light fixed soon.

The shawl I am making is called the Small Talk Shawl by Cheri Evans  -  Ravelry.  I'm using some light 4 ply acrylic yarn in a plum/eggplant color.  I think this might end up being a Christmas present for my mom.  I'm not a fast crocheter so this already represents many hours! I probably should have made is pattern in green but they didn't have any green shade I liked at the store when I bought the yarn so plum color is what it's going to be.
